about
‘Arboreal' introduces an upbeat, vocal-driven twist to the soft, intricate and melodic acoustic palette that is Box of Baby Birds signature. James continues to experiment in form and sound, mixing the familiarity of catchy pop with found sounds, noises and harmonic turns.

Track Name: Red Lights and Chimes
Your stained glass eye always shines in the arc lamps light, the swollen evening light, all those lights you saw, they all were red lights and chimes. And you pulled a thorn out of my paw and placed it in your crown, your swollen evening crown, all the pain you saw, it all was red lights and chimes. Wide eyed, white dress, a penny for your thoughts, black eyed, black dress, born to take it all.
Track Name: Cardinal
You're probably right, building lights on a silver street spill into the night and pull the stars from the city's scene and they might have stayed down. I like the sound you make on the shore I feel you break as you wash away prints we made from each step we take. The ocean will make salty kissers of us all. I might have been gone, I might given my goodbyes, the stars so neatly drawn, I will hang them back into the night sky. it must have been nice to be so tightly sewn into your dreams and slip out of sight, pull a thread from the city's seam.
Track Name: Folk Saints
Where's my slow tiger? Are you in Arizona carved in to stone? I know I could bring you back, back to my home. Where's my God? Where's my Queen? Are you in California, washed out to see? Are you in red woods and sun, waiting for me? Well I don't know. Well I don't know.
Track Name: Break Little Branches
Call the carrier home, sometimes nothing is enough to carry your bluff. Call the Carillon Bells, Joy of Man's Desiring and Hallelujah, Hallelujah. A strange isolation calls the carrier home empty handed. Break Little Branches Break not over bended knee, fall little cradle fall, fall for me. A lock of hair and broken branches, a torn out page, a length of thread to make your bed in that steady old oak, the shaky old oak, shaky old oak.
Break little branches break not over bended knee, take what you have to take, take from me.
Track Name: Coins, Letters, Numbers
Wanted to start a Holy Trinity. Crawled out of the sea of leaves and wrote a story. Evenings are tugging at their sleeves, evenings are wearing out their corners, dressing and leaving. Love lives in empty pockets with the ghosts of coins and letters... coins, letters and numbers. We can't fight like they can, no. Wanted to start a holy trinity, but we can't fight like they can, no not yet. Love lives with ghosts of coins and letters.
